In 842 A.D the Buddhist monk Lhalung Pelki Dorji assassinated Tibetan King Lanfdarma. To celebrate the success and victory the Zhana dance was introduced. The Zhana literally refers to the black hat and the dance is popuarly known as Zhana cham the Black Hat dance.
