The so-called "Smallpox" Pillar (rdo ring), which stands on the eastern side of the "Buddha's Hair" (jo bo dbu skra) willow tree, directly in front of the Jokhang (jo khang) temple's main entrance. The edict was erected by the Qing dynasty in the late 18th century and outlines hygienic measures for the prevention of smallpox. Groups of people stand on either side of the tablet observing the photographer.
