Shaba Ridzong is about 28 kilometer away from Ping'an; the County seat, Haidong Region, Qinghai Provice. This is one of four great Dzong in Amdo; they are Achong Nam Dzong, Pula Yangdzong, Dragkhar Dral Dzong and Shawa Ridzong. In the year of 1359, The fourth reincarnated Lama, the black hatted Karma Rolpe Dorje stayed at this monatery on his way to Beijing to with the invitation of King of Yuan dynasty. More importantly, when Zongkapa was three years old, he tool his religous vows in front of Choje Dondrup Rinchen and named him Ananda or Kunga Ningbo. This is the main temple of Shawa Ridzong and there are only three monks at the monastery.
